The fantastic origin of the Vadapalani temple drives home the truth that honest striving and unswerving devotion can make mountains out of mole hills. If a penniless pious man offering soulful prayers only to a small portait in a thatched shed, turns out the founder of a very sacred and largely visited grand temple in a metropolitan city, would it not be deemed a matter of highest veneration? Or a miracle of unique type? three devout Murugan bhaktas became instrumental for the glory of the temple, housing several mini-shrines for the highest divinities, like Mahalakshmi, Meenakshi, Valli Devasena, Sametha Subrahmanya, Chandikeswar, Dakshinamurthi, Bhairava, Chokkanathar etc. Among others, the first and foremost preference is accorded to Vinayaka Bhagawan, whose shrine facing south greets the visitors first. No sooner one crosses the portal, he sees the enchanting Vinayaka image in sitting posture beckoning his attention. It is a well-built mini-shrine with the Mooshika image outside and opposite the garbha griha. the exquisitely chiselled icon feasts the eyes and raises the hands. After offering prayers to him first, bhaktas visit the Moolavar. The priest performs the ritualistic worship duly and that augurs well for the adorers.
