This ancient temple belongs to the 14th Century with fabulous architecture towards the either side on the walls of the "Moolasthanam" there are carvings of a Tortoise,a Fish and a Snake. The special feature is that the snake is being carved such that it faces towards its left. The place Perianaickenpalayam where the temple is situated at present was called as Gudalur in early days, as mentioned Siva Vakkiyar in his SivaSthala Varalaru. The Sanctum Sanctorum of this temple facing west unlike many other temples (in South India) whose Sanctum Sanctorum faces east, is a special feature.Yet another unique feature of this temple is that all the deities are with their consorts.
The last Kumbabhishekam was performed on
13-07-1987. Located at 18 kms from Coimbatore on Mettupalayam road.
