Gnana Sambanda stayed here in a mutt established by him. Legends declare that Vishnu cam here to have a darshan of Siva. The strains of the hymns of Gnana Sambanda was so ecstatic that Lord Siva attentively listened to psalms.
The shrine of Mel-tali-Nadhar faces west, while that of Vishnu faces east. The goddess is called Mel Tali Nayaki and the holy tank is Vishnu Tirtham. In one temple of this area, Vishnu heard the psalms of Sambanda melted and became a Lingam and that us why this place is called Pilliarpalayam. Apart from Sambanda, Navukkarasar and Sundarar have praised this God by hymns. In the west Kanchi is bordered by three shrines. Onakanthan Tali, Kailasanada and Mel-tali.
