At the south end of Ekambaranatha Sannadi Street, you can see this temple facing east. From the outside, there is nothing to indicate that this is a temple. So misleading is the exterior. Fortunately the priest lives in the adjacent house and with his help can see the shrine.
The interior is devoid of any sculptural beauty. An infinished Somaskanda adorns the sanctum and it will be worthwhile to study how images are cut from rocks. There is an outer circuit and that is the treasure house. The walls have niched in which are embedded the drunken Kapalika images in complete abandon.
There is a legend for this temple too. Upamanyan who got luxurious nourishment in Vashista’s hermitage by drinking the milk of the divine cow Kamadhenu found himself in a helpless hungry state when he went to his parent’s house. To help the child, Siva brought the Milk Ocean to his door. As Siva (the Lingam) appeared of his own accord, the deity came to be known as Than Thonri (self-born) Isvaran.
