Karumbayiram Vinayagar temple is near Varaha perumal coil and to the northwest of Kumbesar Coil. Varaha pilliar is one of his names. Legends declare that Vishnu to rescue vedas from Asuras took the form of Boar (Varaha) and before embarking on his mission worshipped this Vinayagar.
A merchant brought in a cart a bundle of sugercane to sell. As night fell he stationed the cart and took rest. This Vinayagar went to him and asked for one sugarcane but the merchant refused. The next morning the merchant to his horror found all the sugar canes bitter. He grew wise and prayed to this Vinayaga. The sweet taste was restored. Hence, he got the name Karumbayiram Vinayagar.
