Famous as Agneeswaram in legends, it is an ancient temple housing many highest divinities, such as Lord Siva, Muruga, Vinayaka and Surya Bhagawan. It is here Arunagirinathar receiving Sivanugraha lived for years and carried on his devotional activities. It is a twin temple enshrining the images of father and son in the names of Adinathar and Adikumara, and their legends are may and awe-some also. It has sacred thirthas, like Sankhu, which blesses the bathers with keen intellectual powers and the other Sarpanadi which flows like serpent. Adi Amavasya and Thai Amavasya are deemed very important and special worship is offered on these days. Another most adorable deity is Poyya Vinayakar and he is worshipped with sweet verses by Arunagirinathar. He blesses the devotees granting bliss, gnana etc. Annual festival like Vinayaka Chaturthi is celebrated on a grant scale. Here Muruga flanked by Valli and Devasena gives darsan, and the icons are specimens of exquisite craftsmanship. Some traditions followed here are unique and they are deemed more efficacious than those of Palani temple.
